Like many artists of his time Johan Laurentz Jensen (1800-1856) came from the tradition of porcelain painting. His studies also took him to Paris, where he learnt the art of miniature painting at the Porcelain Manufactory Sèvres. His works influenced the typical Dutch-Danish painting style of the 18th century. His floral arrangements often show both a decorative and symbolic value. Jensen's art has been rediscovered in the 1980's and gained international reputation. Many of his works are presented today at the Thorvaldsens Museum in Copenhagen and other European museums.
